The Farm

There are twelve ducks, thirteen hens, two crowing roosters, four emus, five goats--one of whom is the milk goat, Ruby, a pony, an old rescue Arabian, and one lone turkey who thinks she’s a chicken.

There is c.c. and Barclay, two wonderful little dogs plus Ms. Katie, KiKi, and Mama Kat, who take their jobs as mousers very seriously. Bronco rules the pen area, crowing throughout the day, watching over his Ladies who are busy laying eggs in hidden nests all over the yard.

The two emu Ralphs love to garner as much attention as they can from anyone walking into the farm. Ruby and her kids love a pet or two. She doesn’t mind being milked by anyone interested in learning. The duck clan keep and squabble amongst themselves. Pony Bill pulls a cart and Farrah, the old Arabian mare, lives to eat.

There are several growing areas around the house. A raspberry patch, intensive square-foot gardening boxes, and a front garden. We grow kale, spinach, lettuce, radishes, beets, squashes, cucumbers, Chinese greens, cabbage, turnips, tomatoes, broccoli, celery, onions, herbs, chives, and cilantro. Wild flowers grow wherever they can. Edible flowers grace the table on fruits and yogurt at breakfast. All the dirt, compost and fertilizers used are organic.
